Unusual Marketing

Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Influencer Marketing… too noisy. Irritating. Ordinary people are sick of hearing these phrases. Let’s talk about marketing which is less spoken. At least for the sake of refreshing our ears.

Internal Marketing

You can’t sell anything on the open market if you can’t “sell” it internally. Your employees are your internal customers who are supposed to communicate the company’s values to the outside world. They are your brand ambassadors. Promote your company’s vision & mission within the organization in the first place. Do your bests to earn employees’ trust by creating an emotional connection to the brand.

Cause Marketing

Cause marketing is a great way to create a win-win situation for all the parties: companies spend less on brand awareness, customers and employees feel fulfilled, and society benefits from it. Go ahead whenever you find a cause that both your company and your customers care about.

One of the great examples of cause marketing was done by Uber in September 2016, when the European refugee crisis mounted. With the #ubergiving campaign, they decided to provide logistics support. The Uber app allowed people to swipe to ‘giving’ and request a car to pick up donations such as blankets and clothing which would be delivered to local charity partners.

Demarketing

Can you believe that sometimes companies spend money to discourage consumers from buying a certain product? I mean, their very own product not competitors’. Yeah, sounds fishy but it is real!

In fact, it is quite a handy method in certain cases, like when you can’t supply the needed product, when you need to reduce the sales in particular days of the week, or when you don’t want to sell a well-sold product in order to channel the current demand to its alternative.

Guerilla Marketing

Guerrilla marketing is placing bold, surprising yet memorable brand activations in high-traffic physical locations to reach audiences in a creative and cost-effective way, grow brand awareness, and spread the word about your brand. It is usually done in an unconventional manner.

This concept first was coined by Jay Levinson in his book “Guerrilla Marketing” published in 1984. Since it became popular all strategies similar to what he wrote are called guerrilla marketing.

Neuromarketing

Neuromarketing is the application of neuroscience to marketing. It includes the direct use of brain imaging, scanning, or other brain activity measurement technology to measure a subject’s response to specific products, packaging, advertising, or other marketing elements.

Eye Tracking is one of the many applications of Neuromarketing. With eye-tracking software, you can find out where users focus their visual attention when browsing a website, using a product, browsing a store, or viewing a digital ad.
