IKIGAI — Interesting Approach to Shape Your Startup Idea
Hopefully many of you have already heard about ikigai. Those who haven’t, it is a Japanese concept that basically means “a reason for being.” It can also be interpreted as “a reason to get up in the morning”. According to Japanese culture, everyone has an ikigai and it requires a deep and often lengthy search to find it.
Apart from being an interesting philosophy, for me, ikigai is also a perfect tool for looking at your startup or idea from a different perspective. Not only owners but also businesses should have their ikigai. I believe, most if not all the businesses are a reflection of their owners. Therefore it would be awesome if the ikigai of the business is in line with the ikigai of the owner.
In a nutshell, ikigai consists of 4 elements covering pretty much the major questions that every sober entrepreneur has to ask themselves before jumping into the battleground. These are what you love, what the world needs, what you can get paid for and what you are good at.
